Fusion recently supplied a wide range of products from Asahi Valve Co, Agru and our own in-house fabricated chemical storage tanks to a large mine site in rural WA.
Fusion worked with the client to identify the best thermoplastic valves, actuators, plastic piping and fluid flow solutions to use within their many processes. Amongst the products we supplied, this article will focus on Asahi valves, and in particular; ball, butterfly, diaphragm and check valves used in this project.
Asahi Valves in Mining
Asahi valves are designed for tough industrial applications and manufactured in Japan and the USA from A-class resin. The range covers a broad spectrum of sizes, materials and valve types making them a perfect choice for many applications within the mining sector.
Furthermore, Asahi valves come with a 3-year manufacturer-backed warranty in Australia; the longest warranty that we know of in the industry for plastic valves.

Asahi Diaphragm Valves At The Mine
Asahi’s Diaphragm valve range covers imperial sizes from 0.5 to 10 inch and metric sizes 20 to 63mm and feature a solid thermoplastic constructed body and bonnet in a variety of materials to suit specific chemical applications. In this case study we’ve identified some specific uses within mine site pipelines for Asahi diaphragm valves.
Large Asahi Type 15 Diaphragm Valve in PVDF / PPG with a 3-layer PTFE diaphragm used between a sulphuric acid tank and a steel piping system at the mine.
Asahi PP Type 14 diaphragm valves installed in a PP heating water system. Fusion provided pipe spooling services according to the client’s specifications for this project; allowing for fast installation.
Asahi Ball Valves At The Mine
Asahi thermoplastic ball valves perform an on/off function via a flow-controlling ball inside the body of the valve. A hole through the centre of the ball connects the inlet and outlet ports of the body which can be opened and closed by rotating the ball 90˚ via the valve handle.
In this mining case study Fusion largely supplied CPVC Asahi Type 21 ball valves for flow control in PE pipelines.
Asahi CPVC Type 21 Ball Valves installed into a Fusion fabricated PP spool for a cooling water return system.
Asahi Check Valves At The Mine
Check valves are self-contained, automatic valves, used to prevent the reversal of flow in a line. When open and under flow pressure, the checking mechanism will move freely in the media, offering very little resistance and minimal pressure drop. Fusion supplies Asahi swing, ball and wafer check valves in sizes ranging from 0.5 to 4 inch.
Asahi Butterfly Valves At The Mine
Butterfly valves are quarter-turn valves with equal percentage type flow characteristics providing moderate flow control and can be used in both on/off and modulating services. Asahi butterfly valves are well suited for large bore lines and are low profile; making it ideal for tight spaces.
Asahi butterfly valves were installed extensively throughout this mine site in large bore PE lines.
