In 2021, Turnkey Industrial, under contract to Nexus Recycling, commissioned a cutting-edge automotive battery recycling plant in Bibra Lake, Western Australia. This expansive facility is capable of processing up to 30,000 tonnes of batteries per annum, with an installed capacity of 50,000 tonnes per annum.
At the plant, batteries undergo a crushing process where key components and chemicals are separated and processed for reuse. The primary materials extracted include metallic lead, lead paste, and plastics. Before the commissioning of this plant, such batteries were processed in the Eastern States. The recycling process involves handling highly caustic liquids, which require corrosion-resistant piping systems, chemical storage tanks, and chutes/covers to safely convey and store these chemicals throughout the plant.
For this project, Fusion fabricated the following components:
This extensive list of fabrications underscores the complexity and sophistication of the plant's infrastructure, ensuring safe and efficient processing of automotive batteries and their highly corrosive components.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Turnkey Industrial for their collaboration on this project. Fusion looks forward to the opportunity of working together again on future ventures, further advancing the field of battery recycling and sustainable technologies.
